Here's just a small sampling of the projects we've accomplished over the years on behalf of the community.
Boat Wash Station
During 2012 and 2013, we worked with the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, and the Paradise Lake Improvement Board on the construction of a boat wash station at the Paradise Lake public boat launch site. This is one of only two located in Northern Michigan and was funded through a grant obtained from the federal government by the Odawa tribe.
Rain Garden
In 2013, the association planted the retention basin on the lake side of the boat wash station into a rain garden filled with native plants. This was funded with a grant from the Petoskey Harbor Springs Community Foundation.
Up keep and maintenance is funded with money donated to the Paradise Lake Association Memorial Fund.
Fish Stocking
Since our founding, the Paradise Lake Association has worked with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources in assessing fish habitat, population, and planting of fish stock. The association annually plants walleye fingerlings into Paradise Lake.
Educational Scholarship
We fund an annual scholarship to a local student pursuing a degree in natural sciences. Students from Carp Lake Township attending local schools in the area are encouraged to apply.
Community Festival
Each July, we sponsor a summer festival to celebrate and promote public interest and awareness in maintaining water quality and innovative and natural ways to control invasive species from our lake and watersheds.
